The Commie Comeback: Why Gen Z is Drawn to a Bygone Era The recent Cato Institute Survey found that 38% of 18 to 29 year olds have a favorable view of communism, sending shockwaves through my social circle.

Many are still reeling from the economic and cultural devastation of communist regimes I experienced firsthand in post communist Bulgaria in the 1980s and '90s.

At first glance, it's counterintuitive that Gen Z would be drawn to an economic system associated with scarcity, repression, and stagnation.
