How China's Supercritical CO2 and Molten Salt Energy Plant Aims to Revolutionize Grid Stability China has taken a significant leap towards addressing two of the most pressing issues plaguing modern power grids: wasted energy and unstable electricity supply.
On September 16, construction began on what is being hailed as the world's first utility scale combined supercritical carbon dioxide power generation and molten salt energy storage project at China Huaneng's Bajiao power station in Yantai, Shandong province.
The Ruitan demonstration project aims to minimize waste and maximize efficiency by leveraging surplus electricity generated by coal power units during off peak hours to heat molten salt, which is then used to power a supercritical unit during peak demand periods.
